New artist displaying at Garbos hair Southsea art space

ARTIST STATEMENT:

"This piece is part of a series of illustrative paintings telling the story of the history of tea. In the 17th century, tea was traded and brought from Asia into Europe by the way of Venice, by the famous tea clipper ships and the East India Company. Only the richest could afford to drink this new, exotic beverage, and so smuggling became rife: transit on the ocean waves became tangled up in Elizabethan aristocracy".

GIRL 3
This piece is, fairly self-explanatory. However, as well as being simply a girl, the painting is also part of a wider exploration into the subject of "feminine beauty" That i am undertaking as part of my final degree project, and what makes women beautiful.

New artist displaying at Garbos Hair art space

Artist statement

This art is, for me, about the pre-conceptions we have about people. It started from simply flicking through the Financial Times and realising all it had were pictures of "dull" suited people - business men, politicians. I realised this was'nt a fair impression. Who was i to judge on face value?

This lead me to think about how people look at others, and the hidden intentions and thoughts that each of us have beneath this "mask" that we present to other people. My art has this common theme throughout in a slightly comical and sartirical way, and not meant to be taken too seriously. This theme has interested me enough to focus on politicians, "normal" people, relationships, friendships and the rest of society.
